How Much Does a Pre-Wedding Photoshoot in Japan Cost?

Why two “starting prices” may not be comparable

A low headline may cover only photography. The final quote can change when you add a dress or kimono, professional dressing, hair and make-up, a commercial photography permit, admission fees, transport, retouching, tax or a finished film. Another package may already include all of them. Compare the final day, not the first number.

Four decisions create most of the difference: shoot length, number of locations, number of outfits, and whether you want photography only or photography plus film. A focused half-day is the simplest production. A full day with kimono and dress, two distinct settings and a longer film requires more preparation, travel and post-production.

What a complete quote should show

• Photography: shoot length, location scope, number of retouched photographs, retouching level and delivery method.
• Wardrobe and styling: outfit rental, dressing, hair and make-up, and whether a second look needs another styling fee.
• Location costs: professional-shoot permit, venue or admission fee, local transport and any destination travel charge.
• Film: finished duration, orientation, resolution and delivery timing — not simply “video included”.
• Tax and payment: whether Japanese consumption tax is included, which currency is charged and when the date becomes confirmed.

All three totals include Japanese consumption tax. For the confirmed listed location, the stated outfit count, dressing, hair and make-up, basic retouching, required permit and team transportation within the shoot area are included. Which choices add to the total?

Extra cost should follow an extra choice. Current published options include a second outfit at ¥60,000, a nearby second location at ¥50,000, an additional hour at ¥30,000, and a longer 3–5 minute film at ¥80,000. Albums, prints and larger guest groups are optional. Premium Full Day is often clearer than stacking several additions when you already want two outfits and two distinct settings.

Photo only or photo plus film?

Choose photo only when the priority is a strong still-image collection and a simpler half-day. Choose photo plus film when movement, sound and a shareable vertical edit matter to you. Signature includes a defined finished film — 90 seconds in 4K — rather than an unspecified folder of clips.

Does the location change the price?

Tokyo, Kyoto, the confirmed Mt. Fuji service area and Okinawa all use the published main-package totals, with no location addition. A custom destination outside the listed areas is confirmed separately before payment. Permits and access still depend on the exact venue; we never promise a location before confirming that professional photography and filming are welcome there.

A five-question comparison checklist

1. Is the displayed price the tax-included total?
2. Are outfit rental, dressing, hair and make-up included?
3. Are the permit, location fee and local team transport included?
4. How many retouched photographs and what finished film will be delivered?
5. Which choices can still change the total before payment?

If two quotes answer all five questions, you can compare them fairly. If one answer is “quoted later”, keep that amount outside the headline price until you know it.
